SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

One of the members over at CM (Lycorys) set up a temp board for us to use here - http://39.freebb.com/circvsminimvs/

My apologies to the administration here - I'm just trying to spread the word.

Meh.....thats about the best thing I can say.

I think this will be a fine time for the ENworld community to learn, the hard, harsh way, that posts on a messageboard, even if they are irreplacable, aren't really all that important. Life goes on. The community is still there. And really, what's important to a message board isn't the archive of posts - it's the people. And I've yet to see a server problem that could kill users. (though that might actually be kind of neat...) (not a comment against ENworld, just a general thought :))
Next phase, new wave, dance craze, anyways, it's still rock and roll to me.

You can talk all you want about theory, craft, or whatever. But in the end, it's still just new ways of looking at people playing make-believe and having a good time with their friends. Intellectualize or analyze all you want, but we've been playing the same game since we were 2 years old. We just have shinier books, spend more money, and use bigger words now.

Theres waves of fatbeards who have emerged from their parents basements blinking at the sunlight and lumbering to the mall.  THey'll have to fumigate the place after ENWorld goes back up and they head back into their hideyholes.

Quote from: PookaAt this time I'm uploading a snapshot I made on December 29th. As far as is known that was the last time the database was backed up. :brood:

After the upload completes (at or around 6 AM EST) I'll need to configure it to get the review section to work properly.  Then I have the lovely fun of rebuilding the search index (the snapshot having been taken before the index was recompiled).

Hopefully EN World will be back up in some form by the morning and will be up as recovered as she can be within a week.

As to the Gamestore - I didn't write the code that drives that but as far as I can tell it uses it's own database so with luck this crash won't affect it.

It is my hope that out of the ashes of this disaster the rift that had erupted between Nutkinland/Nothingland and ENWorld can begin to heal.

-- Pooka, aka Spoony, aka Goblin Flectomancer, aka something else next week.

Didn't know there was a rift mate but fair play to you for lending a hand :)

Quote from: CyclotronI was thinking that five months is is going to be a lot of game time to make up in a Play by Post game...

This will wipe out 2-3 entire issues of Toki's Generation Legacy Supers Game, we tend to average 100+ posts per day, just in the out of character, more in the actual game play threads :(

Belen

Ugh.  This sucks.  Morrus should never have let Spoony go.  The new guy is obvious;y not qualified for the job.

Quote from: PiratecatPooka is a friggin' hero.

And by 'hero', I mean "someone who is going extraordinarily out of his way to do difficult and time-consuming things to help another site that really needs it.

I'm humbled, and deeply appreciative.
I hope you guys are kissing his ass sufficiently. :)

It's going to suck to lose 5 months of the Gygax Q&A thread. :(

Woohoo my hopes came true. thanks man (pooka) !! If I was enworld, i'd be lining up for some kissin.

Pooka, you better be Catholic, 'cause you need to be nominated for sainthood for being willing to do this at this point.  :p

Piratecat

No kidding. He doesn't have to help, and he is. I think that says something about the kind of person he is.

And on a separate note, hi, everyone! I'm sliding gradually back onto the internet. And I like your new digs.

At this time an estimated 8 hrs 40 minutes remain on the upload. We're at the halfway point of this stage.

There's a really nice story hour interface here, just so you know. :D
