This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Ban CavScout

Quote from: jeff37923;264776No, you just ask questions designed to cloud the issue and impugn the character of posters. You asked CavScout if he had ever been banned, are you going to ask him if he has stopped beating his wife yet next?
The issue is entirely pertinent.  CavScout came skulking here after being chased off from Tangency for behaving exactly like he behaves here.  The assumption has been that he was banned for his behavior, and that he just shifted over to continue here.

Now, we have our share of the devil's rejects from Tangency, but, you know, almost every one of them mellowed out after finding this spot.  Everyone except one person I can think of -- Dominus Nox.  Well, and Pundy, too.  But at least Pundy lets up on the hysterical persecution complex if you change the subject away from story-games.

OK, if this isuue is entirely pertinant regarding CavScout and doesn't have anything to do with his politics, then why isn't the same scrutiny being directed towards Jackalope? He was banned from RPGnet for his behavior, which was not only trolling but is actually criminal (its considered a threat of assault when you claim that you will track people down and throw dog shit at them). So is there a double standard at work here or what?
"Meh."

Go take a look back at the post record.  Jackalope took a mountain of shit for turning up here after his ban, then he took another mountain of it for how he behaved in the weeks that followed, and he still takes his ration of shit from the people he doesn't get along with.

What's the difference between him and CavScout?  Jackie has learned to get along some of the time.  Jackie and I get along fine, not because we share a political doctrine, but because he doesn't get all up in my face with provocative half-sentence posts that serve only to insert his own agenda and derail the thread.  And when it comes to his political dust-ups, Jackalope goes to great length to let you know what his point is, however unpopular it may be, instead of retreating behind the same lame complaint that he's being silenced for his unpopular views again and again.

And you want to know another major difference between the two?  I'm convinced that Jackalope really plays RPGs, and will occasionally discuss them when he's not mired down in Off-Topic/Politics.

I'm not asking what the difference is between Jackalope and CavScout.

I'm asking why are the two of them are being held to different standards by the commonwealth here.
"Meh."

If CavScout, Stormbringer (and sometimes Jackalope) could just eliminate the constant back & forth of "I Say its plaid!" ,  "No, you're wrong! Its polka-dot!"  that degenearates quickly to whole pages of two sentences or less posts of "You're a *BLEEP* !"  , "No, you are!"

...then many, many threads would be a much more pleasant read.

But Jackalope posts in the RPG sections frequently, at least as frequently as in the non-RPG sections.  I would almost guess that CavScout determined some ratio early on, and has likely stuck almost exactly to that since.  A few posts here and there to assuage the complaints before they crop up, but probably something in the 75%-80% range of posts in Off-Topic, specifically in Politics.

I mean, if I wandered over to whatever conservative discussion forums you frequent, and start posting 70% of my stuff in a vaguely role playing topic area, do you think I would be valid in my responses to complaints with some indistinct language about people trying to suppress my rpg choices?

You've got a pretty level head, Jeff, but I would take a step back if I were you.  I mean, I really don't think CavScout is here to support a conservative viewpoint.   I think it is a smokescreen so he can stir shit up and pretend he is being 'oppressed' or whatever.  As much as I doubt he was ever here to discuss rpgs, I have even greater doubts that his 'conservatism' is anything but a dodge so he can jab the anthill over here with a stick.  His recent responses to me alone have been increasingly random and bizarre.  I think it got to be too much work for him to tailor an answer to a specific reply, so now he is just putting a list of a couple dozen responses together a day or two ahead of time and posting them, regardless of whether or not they are appropriate.

Honestly, I think you are as much a part of the elaborate hoax he is trying to pull as the rest of us.

Dude, please shut up.  You have zero idea of what you're talking about.

It is not considered a "threat of assault," it's considered cyberstalking, which is a misdemeanor, not a crime.  It's only a felony if you threaten to kill someone, and if one pays attention one might notice that I never cross that line.  I prefer to suggest that people kill themselves, and thus skirt the issue.

Furthermore, given the broad language of the law, just about every other person on this site is guilty of cyberstalking.

Finally, the person I "threatened" was actively cyberstalking me at the time, and I have never heard of a case of anyone ever successfully pressing charges for harassment when they initiated the conflict with the other person.  And Michelle Lyons definitely started it.  Considering my entirely empty threat -- a threat I admitted was empty in the very message I sent to her -- came within hours of her lobbying to have me banned for making look stupid earlier in the month, the prosecutor would have a hell of a time proving that I meant the threat, that it was part of an ongoing effort ("harassment" that starts and ends within a span of three hours is not what the law is for, that's a spat).

Seriously dude, I know the law like the back of my hand.  I know exactly where the lines are, and exactly how hard they are to enforce.  I also know that no judge is going to let a cyberstalking threat involving a promise to throw a bucket of dog shit on someone tie up the court system when i demand my right to a jury trial.

The sole reason I did what i did was because it was clear to me that the people I was fighting with were of the psychology that they would overreact to an absurd threat and cancel their GT, which I knew Michelle was really looking forward to.  And they did.  So I won.

I am led to understand that teddybearpicnic.com has many threads you can find some sympathy in when everyone around you isn't playing patty-cake all the time.

Other than that, Ed, all I can tell you is that out here in the really real world, adults sometimes have disagreements.  Occasionally, people like myself will lose a bit of patience with the same childish reply pattern.  So, as a bit of amusement, I like to string the replies out until the other person starts going down a very foolish path.  A personal failing, of a sort, but you can easily avoid those threads.

So, go ahead and start avoiding those threads, and you will be much happier.

To Stormbringer's point about cavScout using jeff:  Where's the actual evidence that CavScout is a conservative?

Think about it.  Does he espouse conservative positions?  No, he does not.

Does he claim to vote Republican?  No, he does not.

Does he say he is a conservative?  No, he does not.

Does he display any understanding of conservative positions?  Well, look at his conversation with StormBringer about Ayn Rand, and his clear confusion over why Rand is being mentioned.  He's totally unfamilliar with Rand.  I seriously don't get how any conservative could not be at least familliar with Rand.

I mean, people assume because I'm liberal I'm familiar with Karl Marx.  And they're right.  I've never met a liberal who didn't, at the very least, understand that Marx is relevant to liberal positions.

Here's my point:  We only assume that CavScout is a conservative because he attacks liberal positions, and tries to provoke liberals on this board.

But dear god, there must be more to conservatism than attacking liberals, right?  So what if cavScout isn't a conservative?  What if he just hates liberals and came here to troll them/us after being forced out of tBP?

Quote from: StormBringer;264778And again, you accuse anyone who doesn't share your political views of being some kind of shadowy force out to stop you from spreading TEH TROOF!  As has been mentioned by myself and others, you seem to be the only one having these problems.  I have, in the past, rattled off several people who don't share my views on any number of topics, to which they have utterly failed to cry 'librul conspiracy!'.  You seem to be the only one targetted by this nefarious plot to silence The Right.

I say 'seem to', because no one else has mentioned it, despite having the same leanings as you.

Ahem... no. There are plenty who don't share my views politically who aren't running around trying to get me tossed from the site or to shut down the political/off-topic forums completely. I am pointing out those who are opposed politically and just so happen to be the ones screaming bloody murder to silence me.

It Could be much simpler than that: One of you is annoying (or two of you , it depends on what week it is), the other two are just boring and repetitive.

Not really sure if any of the three of you have crossed over the line to anything bannable yet.

RPGPundit, I certainly hope you'll remember this post if in future times Jackalope causes trouble. He has a history of deliberately stirring up shit to get people to cancel face-to-face meetings. That's beyond run-of-the-mill trolling.

I'd probably ban him as a precautionary measure :)

I really don't know how to respond to this because it seems more like a conspiracy theory than anything else.

Well, for one, I don't visit political forums (except for gaming forums with political sections), so lets just clear that up right now. For two, if you are not dragging RPGs into the rest of the political forum, but staying in the defined RPG section of that forum, then why should there be any bitching about it?

OK, I grok where you are coming from with this, but this entire thread looks more like a smear campaign against a single poster whose political views differ from the majority - and it grates on people because he isn't willing to be quiet about those minority political views.

I know people don't get along with CavScout like I seem to and can generate some pretty vitriolic tit-for-tat posting threads, but this guy isn't here to just be an asshole to everyone (like Dominus Nox) or post insidiously creepy shit (like FritzS) or use this site to become an Internet Martyr (like walkerp). CavScout just has a different opinion than most that he states fairly effectively (yes, effectively, because anyone who can get this many people of opposing political belief after him is being effective).
