SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

All of sudden I'm being notified of replies

Around last week I started getting A LOT of messages from theRPGsite about the fact that someone had "replied in a thread I was following".

I thought it was a glitch, as I never activated such a request. Today I had a bit of time and, after going through the Wiki for the forum, I discovered that on the threads I had posted in the "notify" option was active.

While it was a matter of clicking "Unnotify" ("Yes, I'm certain"), as I said I never checked this option. I'm here since 2009 and I never activated it. It just turned on by itself.

Nothing big but, in my experience, sometimes a small glitch is symptom of some troubles with the forum software. This is why I'm reporting it. Anyone else experienced something similar?

I had something like this happen to me before. I had to unsubscibe from each thread individually. It was a real pain in the ass, but that fixed it.

Ironically, "Notify" turned on by itself on this thread too.

Click the Summary menu item from the Profile menu at top. Then click notifications on side bar. This makes it easier to turn them off.

I did that (why notifications were checked is beyond me - I never ever visited that page), saved the profile and, guess what?, I got a notification about your very answer. I went again to my profile and notifications were back on. I'm totally sure that I unchecked and saved so it is a bit of a cyber/horror :)

But I can only surmise that there is some glitch in the forum software - a glitch that happened recently, because I'm getting notifications from threads where I posted in, let's say, the last two weeks. Long threads where I last posted months ago don't generate notifications at all.

I disabled notifications globally after the original switch over because I had the problem then.

Well, notifications turned on again immediately - like, right now. What I can say?

I would actually use that function if I can figure out how to get it to work.

Thanks. I found it under modify profile, but I swear I've never seen that there before.
