This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

[Zombipocalypse] Combat! Help me Obiwan Clashnobi...

Don't hate me guys but in the throws of a week long migraine an idea came to me. Basically, a new way of doing combat.

Same basic 3d6 but it now uses 1 roll.

The Big changes:
- 1 Roll. You designate 2 of the 3 dice as "Location Dice" and roll + Bonuses as above. The opponent rolls 3d6 as a Defense roll. How much you make it by is the amount of damage you do.

- Damage is split between Light, Moderate, and Critical. Each weapon has its own ranking. So, a shotgun has a 2/7 ranking. This means if you beat your opponent's Defense roll by 1 or 2 you do a light wound, 3-7 you do a moderate wound, and over 7 you do a critical wound. Light wounds deal a -1 to all checks per wound, moderate do -2 per wound and critical is -8 and the area is disabled. You gain 1 light wound per day it is not treated, 1 moderate wound per day a moderate wound is not treated, and you die if a critical wound is not treated within 1/2 hour. A char has their Body in Light Wounds per area, 1/2 Body Moderate wounds per area and 1 critical wound per area. Should I have that be 1 pool instead? So, a person can only take so much light and moderate damage but they track were it goes to the body to better understand where the damage is.

- There are 10 locations on the body. You roll 2d6 and 2-11 are locations and  12 allows you to pick a location.

Here is a sample char sheet.

So, sound too complex?

Strengths as I see them:
- Allows for better modelling of difference in weapons damage.
- Allows for people to die from wounds on "non-vital" areas.
- it is a 1 roll system (well, 1 roll per person).

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Bill

When you look around you have to wonder,
Do you play to win or are you just a bad loser?

My suggestion is, drop it for a couple days and seriously think, 'Is this a good idea?'. Because if it's anything like the type of thoughts I get when tired, probably 'No'.
The main problem with government is the difficulty of pressing charges against its directors.

Given a choice of two out of three M&Ms, the human brain subconsciously tries to justify the two M&Ms chosen as being superior to the M&M not chosen.

Does anything in particular jump out as not working for you? Just wondering.

Not so much; I've have to be more familiar with your system. Mostly, it just looks like one of those over-complicated ideas I get when I'm tired.

Well, I am not sure if it is too complex really but I will take it under advisement. I will run it past some play testers and see how it goes.

Thanks,
Bill
