Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). Using DAZ3D

The point of digital stuff is not having to manage things like file backups or remember where I put disks.

I guess I'll buy a physical copy, then! :)

Looking at Poser, I think I may go with the Reality add-on, and see how I like Poser rendering. Most of the library of stuff I have from Daz is also Poser (other than some specific shader packages)

I'm a little annoyed at Poser's free trial setup, but whatever.

(FluidRay is WAAAY outside my budget, though)
This forum is great in that the moderators aren\'t jack-booted fascists.

Unfortunately, this forum is filled with total a-holes, including a bunch of rape culture enabling dillholes.

So embracing the \'no X is better than bad X,\' I\'m out of here. If you need to find me I\'m sure you can.

Yeah, I finally swung back to sticking with Daz3d, since Reality render thing is available for Daz, too.

Trying out Reality and the Luxrender thing... ... ok, one important thing:
DAZ3D (and I assume Poser's render engine) aren't as good as other options. But you get a big trade-off on speed.

Luxrender, holy cow. Even simple scenes are taking 10-50x as long, or more. Now, granted, it 'should' because it's rendering MUCH more accurately. (Of course, I also have to figure out how to convert lots of materials to the new render engine)

So it's a trade-off.

Example: a scene goes from 30 seconds (in DAZ3D) to 3+ hours. Mmph

It wouldn't surprise me if physical disks don't contain it all - maybe they do.

Reality is pretty good, though its not very fast. I think you'll be surprised what you can do with just Poser's renderer. A few environmental set ups from RuntimeDNA take a lot of the pain away.

Its really outside of the Poser market price wise. If you start getting into modeling, and feel $500+ isn't so bad for a modeler, Fluidray won't look so expensive ;-)

That sounds about right.

Renderers all offer different features; some are highly accurate or support really nice features like subsurface scattering, etc. Some renderers are highly optimized for speed. The ones that harness various open source renderers (like the ones you see in the Poser / DS market) aren't going to be super fast.
