[WHFRP] Overland Travel through the Empire

I'm interested in including a system for overland travel through the Empire in a Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay campaign I'm writing. The core rulebook contains some guidelines for dealing with overland travel based on character's movement rates. This system doesn't include rules for encounters and other complications.
I'm looking for a system of random encounters and complications for overland travel in the Empire that takes distance and character movement into account.
The only overland encounter system I've been exposed to in my RPG career was used in a Second Edition Forgotten Realms campaign my a buddy of mine. His use of the system sucked ass. Whenever our group traveled from city to city, town to town, we had to endure an almost endless series of secret rolls which rarely yielded any result. My buddy later told me he rolled some tables for every day of our travel. It was time consuming for him and boring for us. Of course, I intend to avoid his mistake by rolling encounter tables as part of the pre-game preparations before every session.
I plan on including random encounters in my campaign because I think they stress the dangers of overland travel in the Empire. Players have to make a decision before travelling: pay a coach to minimize some of the dangers or brave out on foot.  Further more, the route they take will dictate the dangers they may face.
I'm interested in a map of the Old World that marks distances because I would also like to make note on the amount of time it takes the PCs to move from one place to the other. I want to pay attention to the old world's calendar as a mean of giving some verisimilitude to the game.

The GM's Toolkit booklet (that comes with the thick and sturdy cardstock screen) is what you're after. It's thirty-two pages of random encounters for city and wildeness environments and includes a section entitled 'The Great Wilds' that includes tables and text for 'Roads, Forests and Farms', 'Natural Hazards', 'Wilderness Encounters', 'Outlaws and Animals', 'Villages Towns and Settlements' and 'Something Strange'. Each table has 20 entries of around fifty words, many of them quite evocative. The passing of BI has limited it's availability somewhat, but if you can locate a copy at a decent price it's well worth a look.
