Title: Welcome To Kramerland Part II...

Hey, guys! It is I, the ever-so-humble Sacrificial Lamb....and for the past few months I've been DMing a new AD&D campaign for the first time in years. It's a hybrid 1e/2e game, using 1e stats for monsters and NPCs, but otherwise using the rules from 2e. For fun, we've also been using the Critical Hit and Critical Fumble cards from Paizo. They're meant for 3.x/Pathfinder, but they work for AD&D most adequately..... ;)

I decided to start the PCs off at 3rd level (2nd-level for multi-classed PCs), and allowed them to use Skills & Powers material from 2e, in order to fine-tune their characters. Just to take note, I let one of the Human PCs multi-class. I'll get around to writing tonight's game, but I'm pretty beat....so I'll start by providing a basic list of characters, locales, and trivia in the campaign...

=Player Characters=

* Glint (Mutt): Glint is a 4th-level Elven Priest. Though technically a priest, he doesn't act like a holy man at all, preferring to stab monsters and greedily grasp every last scrap of treasure he can find. He has unusual powers...such as resistance to fire, Charm-based magic, and necromacy. He also has a limited form of regeneration, though these are not the full extent of his abilities. To the best of his knowledge, he derives his powers not from a god, but from some other unknown source of energy. Perhaps part of the reason for this is that he currently suffers from a limited form of amnesia, completely ignorant of his true name and origins, thus nicknaming himself "Glint" for the sake of basic conversation.

* Choad  (Blumpy): "Choad" is a 5th-level Halfling Thief. He's an unobtrusive sort, and highly talented at stealth. Generally, Choad prefers to avoid direct confrontation. Despite this, he's an amazing shot with a sling, and often manages to steal frags from more powerful party members.

* Dante (imurrx): Dante is a Human 4th-level Fighter/3rd-level Psionicist. He is Lucy's twin brother, and is almost rabidly protective of her. Dante is a skilled unarmed combatant, with a wide array martial art skills at his disposal. More impressive about him, however, are his psionic powers, which enable him to read objects and see auras. He can even alter his physical form to some degree, though he only does so as a last resort...

* Lucy (MeatLips): Lucy is a 4th-level female Human Ranger. She is Dante's twin sister, and the first thing you'll notice about her is her almost unearthly beauty. The second thing you'll notice is that she's dumb as a fucking brick. Despite this, she has a kind nature, and is friendly and approachable. After all this, nobody meeting her would realize that she's an absolute hellcat with a sword, as many monsters and bloodthirsty thugs have learned, much to their sorrow....

That's all for now, guys. More to come soon... :)

Okay, when we started our first game months ago, I had the PCs spontaneously appear in a dungeon south of the town of Raith. Here's the dungeon map that I unceremoniously dug up out my pile of junk.

I'd write more....but I'm late, so....to be continued.

Here's a list of some of the more memorable NPCs within the campaign...

=Memorable NPCs=

* Meatlips: Meatlips is a unusual bulldog. He's the recipient of a mutation granting him human intelligence and the ability to speak, though he usually pretends to be an ordinary dog. At one point, he was a former wizard's familiar, and another time acted as a guard dog at Ashlahn Castle. Meatlips is a loyal friend to the PCs, and always looking for a tasty treat. :)

* Aerowin: An Elven soldier that mysteriously appeared in the same dungeon complex as the PCs. Most of his comrades were killed by monsters, and so now he has returned to the Elven homeland.

* Ord: Ord is a Phantom Stalker, and former denizen of the Plane of Elemental Fire, that was befriended by Glint. He often appears as an ash-colored eight-foot-tall humanoid, with bulbous eyes and a sinewy form. He can polymorph himself into various shapes, and will do so to avoid drawing unwanted attention to himself. Ord tends to speak in a deep-voiced monotone, and is often perplexed by Human affairs...

* Stumpwater Jack: Stumpwater Jack is the captain of the diminutive Erebus, which is little more than a glorified keelboat. He's a salt-of-the-earth type that is down on his luck, and transports passengers in coastal waters, though he waits for the day when he can regain another large ship, and find a replacement for his former-beloved parrot, which was eaten by a ravenous Troll...

* Lord Rigelius: Lord Rigelius is a nobleman that is "slumming it" as the local tax collector, seeking to buy his way into becoming governor of the tiny city-state of Raith. He is always accompanied by his Ogre bodyguard, Gor, and a large retinue of guardsmen. Rigelius is ambitious...and corrupt, needing little excuse to put the squeeze on outsiders for a weapon tax, transportation tax, livestock tax, and any other tax that might be on the books. He was presumed dead after the characters picked a fight with him and his men, though against all odds, he survived the assault.

* Gor: Gor is the Ogre bodyguard of Lord Rigelius, and is absolutely obedient to his master. He enjoys it immensely when given the opportunity to bust heads and "choke a bitch". He's not terribly bright, but he loves his job. Gor was initially presumed dead after a fight with the PCs in the city streets, though he might still be alive...

* Magnus: The hulking captain-of-the-guard in the tiny city-state of Raith, that is sometimes nicknamed "Bender". He doesn't like the PCs very much...

* Araith: Araith is the lord of the keep at Archer's Cove, and much, much more. He was once a Knight of Ouroboros, but is now one of the undead; a bloodthirsty vampire. Despite his undead status, he's still ruled by his human passions, and keeps mostly living servitors...rather than undead slaves. He had a veritable army at his complex, until it was mostly wiped out by the PCs. After the PCs liberated his concubines, and laid waste to the denizens of his keep, Araith's current whereabouts are unknown...

* Lucky Shortlegs Finnegan: This diminutive fellow is a Leprechaun, and remains the absolute bane of Glint's life. Glint hates Finnegan with the fire of a thousand burning suns, and seeks his death after the little guy polymorphed his platemail armor....into cherry-flavored taffy. Twice. No death is too heinous for such an offense. :D

* Hexxer: Hexxer is an ancient disembodied Bard and jack-of-all trades, whose soul is trapped within a mystical jewel. He is mischievous, and nearly insane...due to the misfortune of spending over half a millennium trapped inside a stone, with no physical body and no way to escape. Dante inadvertently released him from inside a dungeon vault, and was possessed by Hexxer for a time, until his spirit escaped Dante's body, and possessed others...like Glint, and possibly even Meatlips and Ord. Hexxer's current whereabouts are unknown...

* Arriane: Arriane is a blonde-haired buxom beauty seemingly rescued by the PCs from Araith's compound. She was one of Araith's concubines, but after delivering her on the ship, Dante discovered that, she too, was a vampire. Glint chased her on the ship, in an attempt to destroy her, but was too late to prevent her from leaping off the deck, and vanishing in a cloud of fog...

* Jocelyn: Jocelyn is a lusty and highly temperamental dark-haired beauty with bright blue eyes. She was one Araith's concubines, and potential "brides-to-be". When Lucy was captured, Jocelyn was unbelievably rude, and seemingly ready to kill Lucy in order to win Araith's affections, though her behavior may have been influenced by a Charm effect placed upon her by Araith. During the PC's rescue attempt, Jocelyn appropriated Dante's intelligent sword, Sentinel, and fled from the melee, laughing like a lunatic. Lucy chased after her, and after a brief confrontation, managed to free Jocelyn from his magical Charm. The end result of this scenario was Jocelyn embracing Lucy in gratitude, and then kissing her passionately, which was something that Lucy seemed to like...very, very much. ;)

* Sentinel: This is an intelligent longsword, with a quartz crystal pommelstone. It has some unusual magical powers, and managed to magically heal Dante when he was hovering at the brink of death. Its primary purpose is to destroy non-human monsters. Though it originally had no specific name, and its origins are unknown, it has tentatively nicknamed itself "Sentinel"...

* Seeker: This is a ceremonial jade green mask, housing a magical intelligence, and possibly constructed by creatures of fey origins. The PCs were hired to recover it from Archer's Cove, and in return...all criminal charges against them in the city of Raith would be dropped. Initially, this mask did not reveal its name, seemingly ignorant of it. Now it identifies itself as "Seeker". It has the ability to sense magic auras, and find treasure. Its primary purpose is to destroy vampires. Despite its great power, it has one major weakness, which was not made known before. Seeker's powers are absolutely useless against beings with fey origins... ;)

* Alicia: Alicia is an exotic-looking Half-Elven beauty from Raith, that was quickly seduced by Glint. She covertly followed the PCs to Archer's Cove in order to enact revenge upon Araith for slaughtering her entire family. She arrived with some enchanted silver crosses that provided protection against the Vampire's most frightening powers. She currently travels with the PCs aboard the Erebus.

The keelboat on the left is a diagram of Stumpwater Jack's ship, the Erebus. I got the map from WoTC's files, and it's a basic schematic of what this tiny ship looks like.

About time you're posting stuff.

Here is a link to the XP page. It probably needs some tweaking, but it has lots of the stuff we did.

http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=0Ag_ri_SxsT7YdHhsdFdLUlY0eXdnbXdMdTJ5YnRUaXc&hl=en&output=html

The stuff on the Form Responses page that has yellow boxes needs a XP value.

Okay. Someone named HellHound from ENWorld made some pretty cool maps, so I decided to use one for the campaign. This is supposed to be a rendition of the keep at Archer's Cove where the vampire, Araith, resides...

You should be able to edit it now. On the second tab, anything that is Yellow needs a XP value entered. It would auto update everyones XP.

Now... what to do about Chode. If he bails, can we have his XP?

The PCs are aboard of the Erebus, sailing back to the town of Raith....when they decide to carefully examine that unusual deck of cards they reclaimed from Archer's Cove... ;)

They discern a powerful magical aura emanating from the cards. Seeker recognizes this as a Deck of Many Things. This is an extremely powerful, and potentially dangerous artifact, capable of far-reaching magic effects. They decide to experiment with it anyway... :)

Glint first draws the Knight card, and then draws the Throne card....twice!!

Dante draws the following cards:

Jester, Comet, Flames, Rogue, and Gem.

Initially, we made some mistakes when doing this, as we forgot that most cards get recycled back into the deck after being drawn.....so after some false starts, we had to draw cards all over again. Anyway, those were the cards drawn, and the PCs are on their way back to town...

Here are the stats for Glint's new henchman. He is one of the crewmen of the Erebus. I don't have to show you the stats, but I'll do it to make my life easier. Physically, Ragnar is about six feet tall, and possesses an almost freakishly inhuman amount of muscle mass. He's very young...with a handsome face, but has an unkempt beard from his time at sea. With the beard, you have to look really close to see the Half-Elven blood of his heritage. He wears the Elven Chainmail beneath his clothes.

In any case, I rolled his stats (+1 per stat, as explained in the DMG)...which was roll 4d6, and dropped the lowest roll. My rolls were good. I used game mechanics from first edition AD&D, as I do for all my other NPCs. So enjoy... :)

Ragnar; 4th-level Half-Elven Fighter (AC 5; MV 12; HP 32; #AT 1; DMG 1d8+4 [longsword] or 1d4+4 [dagger]; STR 18:81, INT 13, WIS 11, DEX 12, CON 16, CHA 13; SD 30% resistance to Sleep and Charm spells; find hidden portals [1 on d6 if passing within 10 ft of door; finds secret doors on 1-2 on d6 if actively searching; discovers concealed portals on 1-3 on d6]; 60 ft infravision; AL N[G]; SZ M; XP; Equipment: Elven Chainmail, longsword, dagger, 17 gp, 23 sp, 41 cp)

He possesses scrolls containing the deed for Glint's new stronghold, with detailed diagrams for a place known as Whitefang Stronghold. I'm using diagrams drawn by a fellow named None the Wiser from Goodman Games, and he is a freakin' magician when it comes to cartography. I'm gonna hire this guy for my own projects someday, because he's just incredible..

Well, I should note that due to drawing the Throne card twice....Glint now has a Charisma score of 18. I'm using the reaction table from 2e, so he has an additional +5 to reaction rolls...even beyond his ridiculously awesome Charisma reaction bonuses.

A now far-more-charming Glint attempts to persuade Stumpwater Jack to turn the ship around, and sail north to Whitefang. With the promise of a reward, he manages to convince Jack to do so. The Erebus turns around at the mouth of the canal, and sails north.

Soon, however, another ship on the horizon is seen...and it's following the Erebus. Here's a diagram of it...

While I'm at it, here's a map of the area that I designed back in the '90's. I'm going to sketch it again...this time by hand, and then scan it in, as I really think it needs to be updated. Anyway, here it is..

Here's an old map of the diminutive city-state of Raith that I drew many years ago. I'll add the description of the area later.

Thanks, man. Much obliged. :)

It's drawn by hand on graph paper with a pencil, and then photocopied. The photocopy is then finished up with colored pencils.

Raith is only a single piece of graph paper, though I actually have a better-looking, and much larger....hand-drawn map of a major city. The best-looking city map I've drawn is a bunch of pieces of graph paper stitched together. I may post it some time.

Though I usually prefer hand-drawn maps with some slight digital enhancement, None the Wiser's maps are so amazing that I had to use 'em for my campaign. Unfortunately, my printer isn't very good, so the Whitefang pics look way better online then on paper, at least for me. I guess it's time for me to update my printer... :o

Your hand drawn ones are a little easier to use in game, or the other flat maps. The 3d is a little tough.

Quote from: Benoist;400536I like the map of Raith! Very cool with its faux-3D, hand coloring and all. I like the style very much.

You need to see the 16 page version of Gorath. That map was scanned and cropped on a AMD k-6 III 450mhz. You need to post the single page version Mr Lamb.

Ok. I went over to MeatLips's place tonight, and he put some of my maps onto a USB stick, but they didn't come out right. I warned him that they wouldn't come out right on the USB, and I was right. We should have posted them directly to Imageshack or Photobucket, but he was feeling sick and extremely crabby, and didn't want to do that, so I have these...unusually-colored maps. When he returns from his vacation in the next couple weeks, we can fix it.

I'm getting uber-frustrated here, so I'll just post them later. The images look horrible, with a green haze over them.. :(

I posted them at this link. There's nothing I can think of to fix it. I'll just buy my own scanner, I guess..

I also posted them here..

All right, gentlemen....here's a long-needed update for the campaign. A long while ago, the Elven holy warrior, Glint, had some incredible luck in drawing some cards from the Deck of Many Things...two of which were the Throne card....enabling him to inherit a couple castles. Well, the PCs recently arrived at the island of Peregrinus where Peregrine Castle was being laid seige to. Here's part of Peregrine Castle...

More maps to come soon....

The situation is that the seneschal of Peregrine Castle was dying, and was fated to pass the ownership of the castle to a warrior with Elven blood, and so a Half-Elven Knight of Ouroboros named Antiochus was staking claim to it. The PCs challenged this claim, stating that Glint was the true inheritor of the castle, possessing the deed to it. It turned out that the only way to formalize and legitimize either party's claim was for there to be a duel, overseen by a group of enigmatic holy men, known as the Letheans.

Well, the two parties dueled for mastery of Peregrine Castle, with Lucy and Dante covertly imparting a martial edge to Glint's attacks. Antiochus was provided with an enchanted blade by his diminutive, bald-headed assistant, Vincentius...a withered-looking fellow, who might be more than he seems. In the end, Antiochus lost, and his forces departed at the conclusion of the duel.

It's been a long time since I've updated this journal, but I'll add a few details now. After the conflict with the Knights of Ouroboros, the PCs spent a little time acclimating themselves to their new home. Lucy had her hands on a magical lamp appropriated from Archer's Cove. Apparently, it summons a Genie named A'mir that is able to grant three wishes. Well, Lucy wished for regeneration...

...and was transformed into a living vampire that craved fresh blood. Though she did receive her regeneration... ;)

The castle's priest, Frederick, identified the abilities of the sword that Glint claimed in combat with Antiochus. However, since the sword could not be wielded by Glint, he decided to travel to a place called Doomsgate, to find a man named Mordeth. This gentleman presumably has some familiarity with magic weapons, and so the PCs sought him out...

After arriving in Doomsgate, the PCs traveled to a tavern of sorts, known as "the Madhouse". That is where Mordeth was located. As the PCs enter, they see a Minotaur fighting other men inside an arena, and of course Dante becomes intrigued... :)

The PCs encounter Mordeth, and Glint offers him a deal. Mordeth's champions vs Dante and Lucy. If Mordeth wins, he keeps the sword. If the PCs win, then Mordeth has to try to modify the sword for free. And so a bargain is made...

Dante and Lucy enter the arena against a gigantic Minotaur named Abraxus, and his teammate....a dark-haired woman of lean muscle, named Shareth. Well...

...it was a close match, but the PCs lost. In the end, the bargain was kept, and the sword was relinquished to Mordeth.

At some point after this, while the PC relax and carouse in the tavern, and Dante and MeatLips (the bulldog :)) encounter a distinguished-looking gentleman named Stromwell. It turns out that Stromwell is a psionicist of some note, that might have crafted the sword that Dante wields (Sentinel), and may also have trained one of Dante's family members many years ago. Basically, Stromwell is attempting to confirm Dante's lineage, though nothing has been fully confirmed yet.

While this is happening, the other PCs are upstairs involved in some bizarre orgy.. ;)

The following morning, Dante, Ord (in parrot form), and MeatLips are passed out in the gutter...when they're accosted by a gang of ruffians. At this point, the PC decide to look for Dante, and find him slapping the crap out of the ruffians, while the last one flees the scene.

The PCs grab the last ruffian, and interrogate him. It turns out out that he's part of a press gang for the "Black Ship", and before they can conclude their interrogation, the man is killed by a crossbow to the chest. The PCs witness two men running away..

The PC chase the men through the streets of Doomsgate, eventually crossing the river. After some attempts to capture them, they soon find the body of one of the assassins...with his throat slit. The last man flees on horseback, reaching a rowboat, where he attempts to flee to the Black Ship...

Glint asks Ord for help, who takes on the form of a pegasus, and they chase down the fleeing man. Glint then drops down onto the rowboat, and kills the assassin. The man's body is then brought ashore, and Dante uses his psionic abilities to determine the man's identity. He confirms that the man's name was Gugnir, and that he was a Knight of Ouroboros...

After this happens, Glint decides to draw from the Deck of Many Things again...

...and draws the Vizier card.

The Vizier basically allows you to ask the DM a question, and he has to answer it truthfully. How the PC can act upon the information gained is debatable, but Glint basically asked how to gain dominion over the island of Peregrinus. The answer was this...

"To gain dominion over all of Peregrinus, you must first travel to the subterranean temple of Darkwall, and conquer an ancient green dragon known to all as Skorne, the Grandfather of Dragons.

In the town of Ravenholme, you and your allies will be provided with weapons suited for slaying a dragon of such stature by a craftsman named Naul, at the Red Kettle. After receiving these weapons, you must journey to Darkwall, and take the dragon's head. In doing so, you will gain the suppport of the citizenry in the towns of Ravenholme and Bresby.

The soldiers that follow you to Peregrinus will aid you in repelling a second assault upon Peregrine Castle by the Knights of Ouroboros. During the battle, you will be forced to sacrifice a treasure you covet to an enemy that has plagued you, in order to appease the gods. This single act will change the course of the battle, and repel an even more insidious evil released by your enemies, the Vampire Host. The aftermath of this bloody battle will free the Ranger, Lucy, from her vampiric curse, and bring the realm of Peregrinus under your control."

Near the end of the session, Lucy again summoned the brawny-looking A'mir ...who appeared in a swirling puff of smoke. She reworded the wish...and this time, was cured of her vampirism, but now must consume poison to survive. Needless to say, she was not pleased...

Okay. It seems that our AD&D campaign has come to an end. It was an interesting experiment, but we're moving back to 3.5...for now. I've been neglectful in updating this journal, so I'll try to rectify that. In any case, in the second-to-last session, the PCs came to the town of Bresby, as it was Glint's intention to pass through here, and travel to Darkwall. Well, they saw that the townsfolk had an Ogre trapped inside of a cage, and the PCs became curious about, when suddenly.....everyone spies a huge Green Dragon flying overhead!

It's Skorne....and he swoops down to carry away the Ogre. Everyone flees inside....except for Glint. Glint decided to converse with the dragon, and proclaims that he's the new lord of Peregrine Castle, and proudly shows off his scepter. :pundit:

Big mistake. :duh:

Skorne becomes very...covetous of the scepter, and demands that Glint hand it over at once. Glint refuses. Skorne demands again. Glint does not comply. The dragon then proceeds to get medieval on Glint's ass, and loot his body. When the dragon attempted to take the sapient mask, Seeker, it recoiled in pain upon grabbing it. It was then that Meaty, the bulldog, ran outside to save the day!

Meaty drags Glint away from the dragon, and the dragon then gashes poor Meaty with his talons... :(

The dragon eventually leaves, and when the battle is done, the mask somehow vanishes. Dante uses his powers to find it...hovering only a couple feet above the ground. It's the Leprechaun, Lucky Shortlegs Finnegan...and when the PCs recover, they track him down outside of town...

At this point, our AD&D campaign comes to a close. Even though our AD&D campaign has technically ended, we are converting the AD&D characters to D&D 3.5, and so the previous characters and storyline will continue from before. Take note that after many mishaps, Lucy finally has a fully functional form of regeneration. I will now continue to update our campaign in a "Part III" Kramerland thread...

P.S. Here's an odd-looking scan of Bresby. I'll try to get a better scan later...
