Quote from: Bloody Stupid Johnson;672735Oh that makes sense. The problem with the AC boost specifically, in that case, might be that its +Int and a wizard (duskblade, whatever) could pick it up via multiclassing for one level.

I'd put Sword Saint as a bit stronger than regular fighter or monk without being ridiculous, but sort of within the range of what can be done with prestige classes and splatbooks, generally speaking, which is why I'd put it as a good effort.

Flurry with greatsword for instance is pretty good, but doable with Unearthed Arcana whirling rage barbarians, the saves are good but still not beyond what you can do with multiclassing, the signature weapon lets them hit slightly better than a fighter but only slightly since the sword saint has medium BAB (a net +1 at 1st level).  Quick draw, quickfooted, whirlwind all have coolness factor but I think not really uber (whirlwind as standard at level 10 is pretty good). Pretty multi-ability-dependent though.

I figured that the Sword Saint would be mostly dependent on Charisma (for the Iaijutsu Focus skill, and the Lightning Blade class ability), Dexterity (for Evasion, Weapon Finesse, and also using Dexterity for improving AC and initiative), and either Intelligence or Wisdom (for improving AC with the Sixth Sense class ability). The "dump stat" in this case would usually be either Intelligence or Wisdom, depending upon what the player was aiming for.

I suppose that I could instead make the "Lightning Blade" class ability dependent on any one mental ability score (Charisma, Intelligence, or Wisdom), thus making it easier to not rely on multiple high stats. I don't know yet...

Anyway...

....I need to write about what actually happened in the dungeon. We'll be playing again this weekend (provided I'm well enough to do so), so I'd best describe what little I can recall of our last couple sessions.

The first session began with Arix, Snowden, and Fergus. If I recall correctly, we came upon some sort of dark portal that our torches and lanterns could not illuminate. When one of our number reached through it, he couldn't pull his hand out. My suggestion:

Fergus: "Chop off the arm! It's the only way."

Before panic ensued, the other guy passes through the portal, with his compatriots right on his heels...

So....

....we ran into some orcs.

But they were pretty demoralised and beat up. Fergus loans Snowden his shortbow, just in case. Fergus was spoiling for a fight, but couldn't bring himself to simply attack the orcs since there didn't really seem to be any point to it. So after a brief parley, we moved on...

We did some more exploring, and I think we narrowly avoided being infected by some kind of weird fungus or mold. I'm not really sure, as the details are really fuzzy now.

To be continued....

good night

Maybe you should write a brief summary of what happened, just this time. The antihistamine I'm on right now is knocking me on my ass. It's so damn hard to think... :(

Ok, I will soon post a slightly-edited version of the Sword Saint class.....but first, I will try to remember a little bit of the content of our actual sessions. That's difficult, because I only remember details properly if I post immediately after a game session. I didn't do that the first time, because I was totally stressed out from the move. This week I didn't do it, because I was just sick. Today, I'm finally starting to feel good again, so I will try to be thorough....but I don't remember much, as my memory is poor. So...

We've had three (or is it four?) actual sessions within the World's Largest Dungeon. Here's a list of monsters and challenges that we've faced so far. If I've forgotten something, guys....then please correct me.

=MONSTERS AND STUFF ENCOUNTERED=

* small group of highly-demoralized Orcs (we parleyed with them....non-violently)
* Darkmantle (we killed it)
* mob of fiendish Orcs killed or rendered unconscious (I think there were seven of them, but I'm not completely sure, please remind me)
* a couple Rat Swarms (Tankred did a real number on those suckers)
* a room with Trogolodyte stench that Tankred explored
* some mold in a hallway (at least that's what I think it was....)
* secret door found? (again, my memory is shit)
* scythe trap (where the dead Kobold lies)
* Fiendish Stirges (how many were there? four? five? more? they were flying in and out of the room...)
* another secret door?

I'll say this. In our last session, we used a 3-foot by 4-foot magnetic whiteboard with a dot grid. It was freaking HUGE. Unfortunately, I was feeling a little too feverish and fucked up that night to properly appreciate it. I was also running five characters at once, and felt a little ill-equipped to use each character to full effect.

Oddly enough, the Warforged Fighter had the greatest combat effectiveness in the party. He was big, strong, and was immune to half the shit that fucked everyone else up. The room with the Troglodyte stench did not impair him, and the Stirges were no bother to him at all.

Meanwhile, the rest of us were losing points of Constitution like crazy. We won that battle, but it definitely hurt. After it was over, we barricaded ourselves in another room to rest for the night. There's more....but like I said, I just don't remember much.

Poor Snowden was getting mulched from Constitution-based damage (not just from the Stirges), so he was having problems throughout these adventures. Somehow, he's still alive...

Anyway, next session (when I'm feeling more fabulous), I'll be sure to write the journal within 24 hours....before my memories turn to rust. Take note that I'll post a slightly updated version of the Sword Saint later.

So for now, I'll just say.....to be continued.
