This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Instant Game (by Animalball) is a rpg setting generator & system. This thread is to show how easy it is to come up with playable settings. Here is the first one I generated - half an hour before playing it.

Setting/Tone: Depopulated Earth/Romance
Things: Silent Immortals, Deadly Royal Bloodline
Tech Level: Macrotech
Place: Bordello
Population: 20
Opposition: Hearty Rebels
Plot Action: Guard (Battle-Scarred) Mass Transit
Plot Action: Reject (Dead) Sci-Fi

People: Gloomy Slave (Johnny no-name), Attentive Leader (Madam Syn), Shy Red Shirt (Elsa, tart with a heart)

So I thought, on this depopulated world where creatures provide the tech the cities are actually built upon huge ever-living elephantine beasts that shamble around the wasted lands. Each city-state is ruled by a member of the royal bloodline of Macca Velli - a right scheming bunch. The infamous Syn City Brothel is located in the Scarlet Quarter of City State 5. The beast carrying the city has seen many fights with predatory flying lizards. A cult has sprung up around the deification of ancient hard-tech items (fridge-freezer, Trabant, i-Pod etc) found in the scrub-pocked hills of the South.

For the 1st session we didn't have time to read up on Instant Game's own system (not that it's complex) and choose to use the Pool system (actually one of the anti-pool variants) as we're familiar with it.

Players loosely created their characters:

Ronaldo - youngest son in the loyal Macca Velli family, who has fallen in love with Madam Syn

Travis - Ronaldo's aged bodyguard, dour but staunch supporter of the status quo

Manilla - Ronaldo's best friend, a loud & lewd drunken playboy

Scenario - at some point rebels plotting against the local Macca Velli family  will encounter Ronaldo at the brothel after a tip-off from Johnny no-name, a spy for a rival city working as a bartender at the bordello. These rebels support the hard-tech cult and will be covertly armed/armoured with all sorts of junk. The affable rebels will try to convert Ronaldo to their cause and if all else fails will attempt a kidnap. Madam Syn and her girls will be caught up in this - if the PCs are too good for the rebels - the rebels will grab Madam Syn - they know about Ronaldo's love for her.

OK - so it's a fairly standard plot, maybe with more time I'd have come up with something a bit more focussed on the macrotech - 'guard battle-scarred mass transit' didn't really come into play in the planning stage - but what the hell!

nice one, sorted - and then we were off!

Setting/Tone: Snowed-in Town/Intrigue
Things: Heaven and Hell, Dragons
Tech Level: Industrial Revolution
Place: Hotel
Population: 600
Opposition: Desperate Citizen
Plot Action: Humiliate Secret Society
Plot Action: Travel Dreams

South Wales in the late 18th Century. The mining town of Twrgadarn has been cut off by a blizzard. The steam train that collects the coal has been derailed in the hills due to tracks being vandalised by a pre-Luddite society - the 12 Dragons, led by the local clergyman Reverend Bryn Jones, who believes himself to be the incarnation of the messanic Welsh legend 'Y Mab Darogan' - destined to force the English from the valleys. He believes industrialisation will destroy the valleys, after a series of visions of dark Satanic mills. The town council plan further links to other towns and villages and an English industrialist has been brought in to advise them and is staying at the new local 'hotel' (well, guesthouse really).

The PCs are the local part-time constable, an industrialist, his daughter and a journalist.

It starts with the PCs discussing the vandalism at the guesthouse.

mutton-chop sideburns, frock-coats, rules of propriety, mad-ass vicars - BRING IT ON !

Sean

whoa....fisticuffs, a kangaroo court, a full-on acrimonius debate, thee fainting of ladies, Geordies putting on bad posh/Welsh accents - so different from the 1st session (with it's swashbuckling bravos chasing around on flying lizards).

rolling again tomorrow..........

Setting/Tone: Near Future Tokyo/Campy
Things: High Magic/Furries
Place: Marketplace
Opposition: Sloppy Demon
Plot Action: Defend Glorious Neutrality
Plot Action: Launch Artsy Store

The PCs are furries - after a flurry of emails the players have decided upon a red fox, a wild boar, a macaque and a flying squirrel.

Tokyo, 2070, after a global atmospheric crisis - intelligent furries replace mankind and spellcasting becomes commonplace, the marketplace is the only neutral ground between the furry magic schools. A new hip artstore opens there and amongst the superflat plasmascreen 'paintings' the shifting images and ambient magic allow a demon to enter the world - gross, fat, slobbering fleshy heap with tentacles. The area is evacuated and the 4 champions of the rival magic schools join forces to bring the demon down.

yep, after all the Thomas Hardy-isms of the last session - looks like we're gonna let rip with the weird fu !

with the thread title, i assumed it would be a thread about a peculiar variation on josie and the pussycats

Sounds like a hell load of fun.

Good to see that I'm not the only one not that convinced of IGs attached system (although I'd probably rather use Risus instead of The Pool). However, IGs random tables themselves are a blast. I have yet to do something useful with them - maybe next time when I'm stuck in adventure prep.

When I write "TDE", I mean "The Dark Eye". Wanna know more? Way more?

Yep, Risus would go well with it - I've been using that with my on-off Uresia group. My group are more into rules-lite systems than story systems - we're trying stuff out to see what we're comfortable with.

These charts are truly sweet !

The Tokyo Furries game - the combatants did a RIFTS/Exalted amount of damage - and it didn't break the system (mind, Tokyo was fucked, bigstyle!).
