Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). Mind if I test-play a session or two with my mostly-reformed former unpleasantly-ambitious Noble Robot Repairman? I would want help with Equipment selection.
The main problem with government is the difficulty of pressing charges against its directors.

Given a choice of two out of three M&Ms, the human brain subconsciously tries to justify the two M&Ms chosen as being superior to the M&M not chosen.

Klax said he'd play a session or three, Narf. What day/time would be good? Tim? Maybe you can join us too.

Afternoons and evenings would be good. Not Mondays; Mondays are booked.

It occurred to me, while reading StarCluster 2E, that you could run a fantasy or historical game using the rules.

Which might be what your other games are, but I've never read them, so...

The basic rules have been adapted to all manner of games, but nothing strictly speaking is Fantasy. The closest I can come to fantasy is The Book of Jalan. You could run The Book of Jalan as a pure fantasy, but I didn't write it that way. I *couldn't* write it that way. 20 years of D&D have utterly purged my mind of all true fantasy. Burned it away. I can't even run more than a one-shot.

Any news on a possible when?

I think someday fantasy will come back--when it is so different that D&D isn't even thought of when you call that game fantasy.

Does Thursday evening work for you guys? How about Tuesday starting next week?

Tim - the fault wasn't with D&D, it was with running virtually only D&D for 20 years. I needed substantial time in different genres and didn't get any. Since I stopped running that epic game, I have found it incredibly difficult to run fantasy, to think in a proper fantasy mindset. It's been almost 12 years now, and it's no different. Aside from Tolkien, I'm utterly uninterested in reading fantasy, or watching fantasy films.  It's like my fantasy batteries were completely run down and won't recharge.

I'm going over my options for resolution sub-systems for SC3E. I would like to use different resolution systems for SC3E than those included in IHWSC, which are the well-tested StarPerc, StarPool, and Star20 systems.

One system that is a shoo in is the StarKarma diceless system. This is a non-random system using skill rank + attribute bonus + effort markers, with effort being a renewable resource. This is very close to completion, and just needs some final playtesting to clean it up.

Another option is the StarBalance system, with attribute bonus + skill rank + (dX-dX). This gives a result that averages attribute bonus + skill rank, but depending on the die used, can vary widely. This one is less developed than StarKarma, but looks very promising.

Yet another candidate is StarRisk - a system where you can choose to succeed automatically with a mild success, or shoot for something better and risk failure. This system is somewhere between StarKarma and StarBalance in the development cycle, but I really like some aspects of it.

There is also StarStory, which is embryonic, but intrigues me. I'm not a story-oriented GM, but others are, and I think I this system would be good at this. This system would definitely require more work before it is viable, though.

There are also two variants on Star20 - Star20.1 uses 1d20 rather than 4d6-4, and Star20.2 uses 2d10 - but are otherwise the same.

Right now I'm leaning toward StarKarma, StarRisk, and StarBalance. Any comments? Preferences?

I'm dubious of the utility of making people buy IHWSC if they want the other dice-rolling methods.

As am I, so they'll be able to DL them for free. The point here is to increase group options - I'm not trying to force buyers of one to get the other. Game mechanics aren't copywritable in the first place. Why wouldn't I just use the same ones? Because this will give different mechanic options some spotlight time. I'm just trying to highlight, not restrict.
