Title: Spike's Worlds of Wonder
Post by: Spike on January 20, 2009, 04:34:14 PM
This is intended to be something of a collection of the various insanities I have foisted upon theRPGsite over the years, particularly those elements I consider useful resources for the games of others... that is to say, links, motherfucker, do you have them?

Indeed, as of this thread, I do.

The majority of these links, these threads, are written in a 'in character' sort of voice. I've made no effort to link them by any other means, but I have attempted to create a sort of voice for a enlightenment/renessance era scholarly type seeking to expand the knowledge of a largly unknown and mysterious world, if only for my own amusement.  While often largely written with D&D in mind, I don't personally view them as 'D&D' Specific.  Any fantasy realm which contains, or possibly contains Elves and Dwarves should be able to pull something of substance out of anything written.  I have not, deliberately, put any substance of Rules to anything I've written in this fashion for this and other reasons.  That doesn't mean you (or I!) could not.

As always, and what normally should remain unspoken, feel free to comment or criticize or abuse and twist what's been said  in any of the threads, or even this one.  My creativity does not exist in a vacuum, why should the fruits of that tree languish in one?

And without further Ado, the links:

I would like to point out that the Races and Fantastic Metallurgy documents are stand alone, I have made a point of not tying the Metallurgy to my own setting when naming places and events.

Also: comments and praise keep the creative juices flowing. Where's the love, people? :(

Hell, gimme some ideas of what I'm doing wrong and I can tighten shit up, give me feedback on what I got right and I can try to do more of it.  Right now I'm firing into the dark here...

Dear Spike,

I'm you're biggest fan. Remember that time you wrote that thing about the people...that was awesome!

I don't know if you know me, but I once sent you a collection of your current works all bound in a single document (with a few hearts for decoration). I was thinking about doing the same with your current work.

Love always and forever,
Jim

I love these things. And the links are all in one place now... You bastard, now I'm going to have to read it all again.

As for what next: Gimme some ruins, caves, dungeons in general. And monsters. Lots of monsters.

I've left hints of ruins and possible 'dungeon locations' in some of the threads, particuarly the 'ancient kingdoms' thread which I've failed to link, the Paravail thread which I have (c'mon, the city is sinking and rebuilt over itself constantly... what could possibly be down there?), and the Tenebria thread (notably the City of Palaces, built on top of not one but TWO ancient lost cities...).

In keeping with my general bit I've also kept things essentially systemless, so any monster threads must be limited by nature. I have dealt briefly with dragons, lizardmen and goblins, however... not to meantion the Daeylyraeth...

But I'll see what my brain can sort out.

Very cool stuff Spike. I don't plan on running a fantasy game anytime soon but I've enjoyed the history stuff nonetheless.

VERY well written!!! I've been working on a universal RPG creation system for a while now and your writing has given me a LOT of new information to work with! Keep it up!!!

...by the by, don't let the status or newness of this account foll you, I've been around the interwebz for some time in different forums.

No problems at all, Mac.  I assume anything anyone tells me about themselves to be the dog's honest truth over the webz.

I still add to this from time to time, and why not? It's my own little corner of internet celebrity... so Go Me!

Well... that and I actually use the setting and much of the 'other' bits for my own GMing.  I haven't had a LOT to add to it lately, but I've also been working harder and goofing off less.  Still, I have been meaning to toss in some world specific religious stuff that I've been winging in my game, the better to match the metaphysics underlying the world as written. Keep yer eye on this thread, she may grow when ya least expect it.
