This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Critique my D6 (Star Wars) variant. . .

Okay, so between regular holiday stuff and produyct reviews, I've been strapped for time to put togther some material for Tuesday's game night  (which is scheduled to resume after the holidays). We had planned to be playing True20, but that didn't work out. . .

Rather than try to learn an entirely new system, I decided to go with something I already know very well -- the old D6 System, as it appears in the Star Wars (Second Edition) RPG. Here's the deal -- the group wants to do a fantasy game. So. . .

Taking some inspiration from the Volsungasaga, Eaters of the Dead, and (obviously) Star Wars, I've compiled a low-magic fantasy setting with some heavy Icelandic overtones and an emphasis, less on flashy spell effects, than on supernatural abilities (yes, yes, Force Powers).

At any rate, I've got the character creation guidelines and the record sheet done up in PDF format, and would like a bit of feedback (more on the rules alterations than the layout, art, etc). You can download the files for free at the following links:

I'll post the setting primer and the rules summary (i.e., stuff for the GM) when I get it laid out. For the most part, stuff works just like it does in the Star Wars RPG (only aesthetics were changed). Galdur is an exception, naturally, as are goals (and, thus, character growth).

Thanks in advance for your input!

I caught and corrected an error in the Character Creation rules (the reference on the armor chart to "Stamina" has been changed to correctly refer to Strength).

I haven't had the time yet to thoroughly read through the pdf (and actually get my old Star Wars book out to refresh my memory), but it looks pretty decent.

Although I'm not a big fan of Strength as both damage-dealing and damage-taking attribute. It's not as bad as a Dex/Str mixup (stupid "Body" stats), but some guys might be better taking hits than laying the smack down. Alternatively, this is always a good point for extra-lucky characters, but without a specific stat or some advantages, that's not in the SW D6 system -- apart from Force and character points, of course...
