This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Asquilla RPG - Every Choice Matters
« on: August 22, 2020, 04:10:39 AM »
Hi everyone, I'm new here and looking for feedback on a RPG system I'm creating.

The Pitch:
The Asquilla RPG is an RPG set in a fantasy world with a splash of steampunk. It uses the explosive dice mechanic and lets you start your journey as a commoner and sets you on your path to becoming a Legend.

The System in a nutshell:
The system is built from the ground up with the idea in mind, that your character has no experience in adventuring whatsoever and just happens to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. And that every choice should matter, so in order to facilitate that last one, you'll have access to:
- 7 races
- 50 Skills
- 27 Specializations
- Over 500 Abilities and Spells

Abilities and Spells are meant to be building blocks for your own special moves and spells, so you can craft your own spells mechanically and fill in the how it looks by yourself. If you want your normal fire-dealing spell to be an exploding squirrel, you can do that.

On top of that, you'll have to consider the fact that healing isn't easy and using magic is very limited in the early phases of the game. So you might need to abandon a crypt to fight another day or risk dying early on.

What I'm looking for?
Any type of written feedback going beyond the point of: "I like the idea".
If you like something I want to know why, if you dislike something I'd love to know that even more. Be it phrasing, pricing, platform, layout, explanations, locked content, ...

Where can you get it?
You can download a sample at: https://leanpub.com/asquillarpg-core (last update is from 8th of August 2020, new massive update will be appearing around the 29th of August 2020)

Why Leanpub?
Leanpub offers an 80% cut to its creators and allows them to publish WIP. When you, as a customer, would buy something from Leanpub, you automatically receive any future updates to the product you bought for free, no matter what you paid for it. It also allows you to get involved through a buyers-only forum.

What are my plans for this system?
I intend to make it a full-fledged book that people can buy through Leanpub, the final product will include everything for a group of players to play from their weak beginnings till the slaying of ancient terrible forces (or if they don't want that, the ability to govern their own city, which is kind of already a possibility).
The sample version will be used as an introduction demo, which will get you about 40% of the entire content.

Meaningful Update:

I have been looking around for an artist and I have found one. As this'll add an extra layer of work to the existing project, I'll be increasing the minimum price of the project once I have several art pieces available to me. (Might still take some time though).

The sample will ofcourse function as a demo or OSR, whatever naming you prefer.

On top of that, I've almost completely rewritten "Part I"... I'm afraid of how many words it now contains... (44k in the last update).

New update on the 29th (might hold another surprise.

It's HERE, 3 weeks of work :D

- I've rewritten and added more to Part I (Player Section)
- A small but significant change was implement in how Combat works. You regenerate Energy Points at the end of a Round and a single Round can go through the initiative order multiple times.
- I've made the entries to the various races open to the Sample version.
- 13/27 Specializations have been written down (not including Warforged Cores here, because they'll be derived from various Specializations).

In numbers:
- Previous word-count vs current word-count: 42.289 - 55.569
- Total amount of sample downloads: 51

The surprise, I'll be giving away a single copy and 4 more at a reduced price.

Free Copy: http://leanpub.com/asquillarpg-core/c/GMQubCGCNWs4 - No longer available
Reduced Copy: http://leanpub.com/asquillarpg-core/c/7hFFyffQW9f7

PS: If that last bit counts as advertising, I apologize to the staff.
