This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Another bit:

Faerie

Faerie is a realm co-existant with the human realms, hidden away in pockets of extra-dimensional space and complete pocket universes. In the British Isles - England and Wales, Scotland, Ireland, and the smaller islands - there are hundreds of these pockets, ranging in size from tiny croftholds with less than five inhabitants to Faerie cities with thousands of inhabitants.

Each Faerie pocket has different base rules, different physics, than human realms; and different from each other. Time may be slower or faster. Distances inside the pocket can be enormous even though the pocket may be tiny externally. Magic can be performed casually, and cause and effect are different, perhaps reversable. The people of these realms are Fairies.

Fairies

Fairies are non-human, but very, very close to human. All Fairies are the same species. As babies, they are all the same, no matter whether their parents were Red Caps, or Brownies, or Pixies. Their morphology reflects the choices they have made in life, it is not inborn. Size, shape, and physical abilites directly reflect these choices, unlike with human beings. A fairy who had chosen a murderous path will become a Red Cap, even if his parents were Brownies. Despite their morphological differences, magic is inherent in Fairies. How that magic is expressed differs by the type of Fairy.

I should stop leaving books around for my players to discover. They want me to run something like this :

and now, you start this !

Quote from: flyingmice;305908That should have been "unusual in themselves"!

Well, you never know what those freaks are up to... Geez. Now that's nice. Laugh at the Latin boy who can't spell...

Quote from: flyingmice*Paths of Power are in-character choices. None of these things are chosen by the characters.

???
Would that be players? Or out-of-character? I don't understand... how would the char-gen be, then? Is there random stuff?

Huh? I thought I made the mistake, not you! :P

By not being an in-character choice, I meant that though the player chooses it, the character has no more choice than if it were the color of his eyes. It's something you are, not something you do. Taking a Path of Power, on the other hand, is always a deliberate choice for the character.

Chargen is a non-random age-based lifepath, as is advancement. There is no difference between advancing in chargen and advancement after play - there are no XPs. As the character ages, he becomes more skilled, but after the early thirties, his physical stats begin deteriorating. You can play a character anywhere within the character's lifespan. I've had players play PCs as young as 10 and as old as 77.

This is a very cool concept Clash. There are certainly many opportunities for intrigue and adventure. Of course, the Church has to be involved somehow. Keep me posted.

Man! You either have lots of energy or lots of free-time! I think I average 2 pages of rpg-development a week these days.

Of course the Church is involved! The interesting thing is that at this period, "the Church" is all over the place theologically. There are Calvinist elements, Catholic elements, and elements who vacillate between these poles. Henry, Elizabeth's father, broke from the Roman Church, but other than acknowledging  the primacy of the Pope and allowing clergy to marry, he was Catholic. Mass was still in Latin, and all rituals were identical with the RC Church. His young son Edward's short reign, under the influence of his advisors, turned definitely Protestant. After that, Mary came to the throne and tried to turn the realm back to Roman Catholicism, by burning if necessary. She became known as Bloody Mary as a consequence.

When the Arcane Service is inaugurated in 1560, Elizabeth is still a young woman in her 20s, only on the throne for two years. The country had been shoved into the Protestant, then the Catholic camps, then back to the Protestant side. The Church in England is in a severe state of flux. Elizabeth reinstituted the reforms of her father, but was somewhat more strongly Protestant than he was. By the end of her reign in 1603, the Church was firmly on the path to where it is today, with  both a High Church and Low Church component. In between, there was a lot of compromise and accomodation to be worked out. It was interesting times for a man of the cloth, and many Blood Games PCs are religious types.

I'm insane, and don't need much sleep. I usually go to bed at 2-3 and am up by 6 to go to work.

Hehe! That would be cool, but I like Rich's dagger and manuscript. It echoes the illo inside the cover of Blood Games II nicely:
