This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

And yeah, I'm tired as hell by the end of the day too, and my attention span is shot.

How is everyone doing?

I'm scheduled to finish on the 28th. The holiday will likely screw that up, though.

I'm really getting a lot out of this. I think the pace is just about right for me, although I'll probably cut it down to 1500 words after the end of the month. One thing I would advise is to limit your looks back over what you've done. Save that shit for later. when you have a complete draft.

Precisely so. Draft. Let it get weird. Finish. Revise. Publish and repeat.
Employment Counselor: So what do you like to do outside of work?
Oblivious Gamer: I like to play games: wargames, role-playing games.
EC: My cousin killed himself because of role-playing games.
OG: Jesus, what was he playing? Rifts?

What are you thinking in terms of publishing? I'm thinking of releasing a cheap kindle edition if i manage to make something halfway coherent.

I'll try first to get it published on paper. But barring that, I'm absolutely not too proud to put it up somewhere as an e-book. People caught up in the whole aspiring writer thing will tell you to avoid it in all cases as a trap, but I disagree. A piece finds its market one way or another.

Just be aware that what you're doing--even if it seems sort of silly to you--has value to folks out there and don't sell it short. By all means, sell it, though.

At one time, I was caught up in the whole aspiring writer thing; if ever there was a trap, that's one. After having done so in the past, I can't think of a single compelling reason to deal with a traditional publisher.

The advice to avoid vanity press is old-fashioned.
The only reason to deal with a publisher is the presumed cache. But if it gets exasperating, or they don't seem to be getting the job done, you have alternatives. No one really knows the best way to squeeze the most money out of the alternatives, but that will come with time. I just try to remember that although publishing isn't always the main reason to write, it is part of the process.

Weirdly, although my NaNoWriMo project is stalled, I've gotten lots of other 'little' things knocked out in the past few weeks.
Wampus Country - Whimsical tales on the fantasy frontier

"Describing Erik Jensen\'s Wampus Country setting is difficult"  -- Grognardia

"Well worth reading."  -- Steve Winter

"...seriously nifty stuff..." -- Bruce Baugh

"[Erik is] the Carrot-Top of role-playing games." -- Jared Sorensen, who probably meant it as an insult, but screw that guy.

"Next con I\'m playing in Wampus."  -- Harley Stroh

Only 3K to go here, and I'll have a decent first draft. Lots of revision ahead, then I'll probably self-pub sometime next year.

Aos

2.5k left to hit 50k here. that will be about 60% of the first 1/3 of the novel. I'm going to take a week off and then get back on it. I've set myself a deadline of March 1st for the first draft of the whole thing.

I have almost 70K. I met the goal, but I'm still a pretty good ways away from a finished first draft. And after that, I have more substantial revision to do than I usually have for a project.

It's been fun doing this this year.

Congratulations!
About half of my virtual classroom made it. Combined, we did about 110,000 words. I guess everyone altogether did over 3 billion words. Holy Smokes.

It horrifies and intrigues me.
