This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Concepts I'd love to do!

Percival Lowell was Right!

Mars is a cool, dry world, with canals. Venus is a steamy tropical paradise. Both teem with life! I could do this one of two ways - totally hard science, or rayguns and rockets. Either one would be fun! Entirely in-system stuff.

StarCluster:Beginnings

The prequel to StarCluster - the time between spaceflight and the destruction of the Solar system. This would definitely be very hard science fiction - no FTL, spin gravity, ceramics and magnetics. The first uplifting and transhuman experimenting. Slow fusion generational ships to nearby stars, taking decades on the journey. The only successful interstellar colony pre-diaspora at Alpha Centauri. The discovery of the end of things and the effect of knowing the end is coming on civilization. This could be very cool.

My vote would be for alternate history (relatively) hard science rather than a pulpy treatment, which has been done alread.  Basically, after the Apollo missions and the first unmanned missions to Mars and Venus return pictures of the canals and swampy jungles, there is incentive to keep going out into space rather than to retreat into Low Earth Orbit.  Hmmm.  Maybe borrow a few ideas from Stuart's 2477 idea with respect to style and set it in an alternate 1970s or the 1980s as envisioned by Gerry Andersen's UFO.

Discovery of two living worlds - and the canals! - would have really hastened development of space, but I already did a lot of that with Cold Space - atomic rockets and all. OTOH, I love hard SF...

Hmmm - decisions!

Errr...It's a long, long list for me...

Nine Worlds Ring - Norse / Jack Kirby inspired space opera with really really advanced technology.  The fire giants are beings of stellar fire bound in ceramatite bodies.  The frost giants are ancient monoliths from the edge of the galaxy.  Odin is a psycho history computer.

BANG! - Modern western / Gun Opera  - rampaging running gun battles and car chases across the american mid west.  Suppose for a moment that the country and western music movement is actually a world conquering conspiracy group...

Paradise - Fairly straight up super hero setting I actually have a 16 page comic I did for this one and know what the first arc will be.  Mainly a comic project but naturally I'd want rules and stats.  Paradise is a free city on the American / Canadian border just south of where Regina is in the real world.  It's the site of the Paradise Generator, an extra dimensional power plant that supplies electricity to the entire western hemisphere.

AWESOME! - A post apocalyptic super hero setting I started developing for GURPS that SJG turned down.  Features the Awesome Atomosaurs and lots of other silly stuff with the dials turned to 12.

Rails to Bind The Dawn - the history and details of the Nandrian railroad project for "among the beautiful creatures"

The Covenant Generation - low space opera with humanity divided and surrounded on all sides by scary aliens.  The original setting for Galactic Adventures.  I'd really like to develop this one more fully one day.

Then there's the unnamed fantasy world I'm building for my current Rolemaster campaign.  Which will eventually be a complete fantasy setting.  I'm drawing city and town maps like crazy but there's still a large world out there to detail and explore.

Sure, but I think pulp is being done to death.

Another possible angle, especially if you make it at least semi-hard SF, from the [SotC] Inspirational Art thread on TBP.

Make that picture take place on Venus instead of the Amazon, aliens instead of humans.  Oh, and put all of that WW2-era aviation knowledge into play, too -- on Venus and Mars.

Well, I am almost done with V2. If it suits you we could field test it with this project...but I am open. You know me, I suck at system. I will much prefer writing and layout.

That said, if we wanted to extend V2 with some subsystems we could easily do so.

So, pulpiness level? I would love to strike something between hard core John Carter and some of the early Heinlein/Moon is a harsh Mistress.

Random Thoughts:

Cpt. Roger "Stone" Johnson - A man of military experience, he found himself on a dry world, a world of strange men and stranger customs. He wandered for days until he found signs of civilization, the sign common to all people and all worlds, war. Mars was a place of strife and hardship, companions of war and Stone knew this craft. He spent years finding a way to return to his homeworld but in those travels he found men to kill, women to woo and honor to win.

Canal Lion - A six legged best with red fur, it masses over 500 pounds and is a solitary hunter. The Canal Lion will attack and feed on any living creature that crosses its path. Its barbed tale and baleful green saucer eyes can freeze the blood of men foolish enough to stare into them.

Elenore deMilo - Marooned in the Jungles of Venus, Elenore uses her skills as a spy to win a place in the tribes. It is not long before she must face the priestess of the pagan gods in mortal combat. Her battle is long and wounds severe only to be cast out by the very cult she sought to defeat. Elenore will not accept defeat so easily as she battles on to free the tribes of Venus from the dark overlords.

Guns not blasters. Ridiculously long and effete looking items with some amount of power to them.

Not nesacarily.

A woman can be fully clothed in a military uniform and still be sexy. If she has brains, personality and kicks ass with lots of ammo involved - then thats my kind of woman. (Think Kara Thrace, Sarah Connor, Ellen Ripley, Sarah McKenzie on JAG....)

I like the Mars idea. As shown in past threads I LOVE the idea of RPGs set on Mars very cool.

Best thing I've ever heard do it  Not so crazy about Odin as the computer--seems like he'd be a transhuman cyborg interfaced into Well of Wisdom/Memory, sacrificing of an eye remains the same, to better link to the computer of course..:D

I'm planning on doing Kirby spin through Celtic Mythology at some point--to draw further step beyond his work, and just utilize his brilliant imagery.

But we'll see in the fullness of time.
