This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Concepts I'd love to do!

Mars is a cool, dry world, with canals. Venus is a steamy tropical paradise. Both teem with life! I could do this one of two ways - totally hard science, or rayguns and rockets. Either one would be fun! Entirely in-system stuff.

StarCluster:Beginnings

The prequel to StarCluster - the time between spaceflight and the destruction of the Solar system. This would definitely be very hard science fiction - no FTL, spin gravity, ceramics and magnetics. The first uplifting and transhuman experimenting. Slow fusion generational ships to nearby stars, taking decades on the journey. The only successful interstellar colony pre-diaspora at Alpha Centauri. The discovery of the end of things and the effect of knowing the end is coming on civilization. This could be very cool.

What do you mean by "either"?

There's only ONE way to turn this into a good game. And this way involves rayguns, rockets and scantily clad amazon princesses from Venus. (And maybe the one or another little green Mars man with a photon grenade launcher that always misses the heros, but does a lot of damage to the scenery.)

Quote from: SilverlionBest thing I've ever heard do it  Not so crazy about Odin as the computer--seems like he'd be a transhuman cyborg interfaced into Well of Wisdom/Memory, sacrificing of an eye remains the same, to better link to the computer of course..:D

I'm planning on doing Kirby spin through Celtic Mythology at some point--to draw further step beyond his work, and just utilize his brilliant imagery.

But we'll see in the fullness of time.

Cool, Celtic Kirby would be sweet.

I've actually done a fair bit of sketching on visuals for Nine Worlds Ring.  It's my intent to sell it as a space opera with the serial numbers filed off.  So instead of Aesir we have the Ys of Ysward and their reptilian Vai allies.  Their cultures are extremely advanced and they have been fighting with the Troz and Surt for milenia simply because they see warfare as justifying their otherwise rarified existance.  The troz are like cyber punk sumo-wrestler lizard men and have a race of "finger monkeys" that they train to do fine manipulation for them.  There's the Zargart Halphur and Zargart Dalnar, divided race for which science is art is magic.  And of course the humans of Midworld a system which conveniently lies at a new warp gate nexus and has ties with the mysterious Anyar a beautiful winged race who claim to be the angels of earthly legend.

Actually, I was thinking of suggesting my own version of Risk Dice, but DAM Risk Dice would work just as well! :D

Quote from: John MorrowSure, but I think pulp is being done to death.

Another possible angle, especially if you make it at least semi-hard SF, from the [SotC] Inspirational Art thread on TBP.

Make that picture take place on Venus instead of the Amazon, aliens instead of humans.  Oh, and put all of that WW2-era aviation knowledge into play, too -- on Venus and Mars.

But John - that's so pulp you can make paper from it! :O

We should have Nazis...or Communists....No, not Nazi Communists. My brain hurts thinking about that. I like Nazis though, that make really good bad guys. Oh, and other factions too but over them all have some sort of United Earth Federation or Terra United Organization....

The only way to improve a game with scantily clad Amazon princesses is definitively to add nazis :haw:

Don't forget the secret super weapon projects. And moustache-twirling Wehrmacht officers and scientists who gloat overrr theirrr grrreat plantz to konckerrr da holl vörrrlt, if natt da holl yunivörrrs :D

You said it baby!!!

Now, on to practical matters....

Should we used surveys of Mars and Venus or who the hell cars as long as we are close? I am thinking some maps could be handy to help us plot out who goes where and what is going on.

Clash, am I getting too pulpy for you? I can ease up on the throttle if that is the case.

Nope - that's cool, Bill!

Here's a link to the original Risk Dice thread.

I've got maps of Mars and Venus we can use.

Forgive me if I missed some stuff but here goes.

So, Stats? Any we want? If so, I would suggest three:
Body
Mind
Spirit

Range seems to be 2-12 for them, yes?

Skills could go a lot of ways. Range is 0-12 right? I would suggest, as a starter:
Athletics
Science
Mechanic
Weapon (Specify broadly like Pistol, Rifle, or Sword)
Stealth
Tracking
Deception
Medic
Pick Lock
Search
Piloting (Specify broadly)
Entertaining (Specify Specific;i.e. Dancing, Singing, Clarinet)

Those are off the top of my head but I would STORNGLY suggest int he rules section that the players be encouraged to make up their own skills.

Hit Points: This system seems predisposed towards wound levels ranter than outright HP. I would suggest:
Bruised, Bruised, Bruised, Hurt, Hurt, Wounded, Wounded, Wounded, Damaged, Damaged, Critical and Dead.

Those are my initial thoughts.
