This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). Complications for a monster hunt adventure

I am working on an adventure for a playtest of slayers (a game we have in the works). Trying to keep things a bit classic for playtest reasons(i want to test combat, skills, etc). This is just a small side trek but i want to add some interesting complications. Basicslly the premise is a small village the PCs will likely pass by has been the victim of attacks by a yule (which i have modified to fit the tone of slayers). If the pcs take an interest (and not sure they will) they will likely help the town defend against or track down the yule. All i know right now us the yule will hunt and kill a single villager each day. I this setting the yule can walk upright and impales victims with moveable horns (it also eats human hearts). For complications i was thinking of the following possibilities:

-the yule is under the protection of a local cult that worships the species (this could be villagers inside the town who feel honored by the beast's presence and work against the pcs, or an outside group that follows the thing around.

-the yule has a disease that causes insanity and the bodies of its victims are infected, exposing anyone who comes within a few feet. The disease could e a minor annoyance that needs to be addressed (people mumbling and waing in a haze) or dangerous (lanching a scenario like the crazies).

-there is actually more than one yule in the area

Ok I don't know what a "yule" is so much of this could be wildly off but random wild ideas:

*the yule leaves some sort of larva in its dead victims that hatch out after awhile.

*books or villagers in the area have wrong information on how to defeat the yule

*villagers have laid traps in the area to try to stop it, which might accidentally catch a PC.

*it has attacked a villager in the past, only to turn away because it could scent that the villager isn't actually "human" and so their heart isn't tasty.

*the yule was driven into this area by villagers or hunters from another area, perhaps to retaliate against the village for some reason.

*the yule has some sort of treasure.

Sorry that should say Yale (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yale_(mythical_creature))

I like this idea. Am taking liberties with the monster so it works.

Quote*books or villagers in the area have wrong information on how to defeat the yule

This is an intersting possibility

Quote*villagers have laid traps in the area to try to stop it, which might accidentally catch a PC.

This could work
