This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

A spot of fantasy art... (larger download than the average thread)

Quote from: HodgsonHey all, don't want to spam up the forum too much, since the last image didn't get much traffic, but...
Not much traffic? Then consider yourself my private dancer and keep posting on! :haw: But remember this is a slower forum on a smaller board so don't expect huge amounts of traffic. If you want traffic maybe a "Post Art Here" thread in the Role-Playing Games forum would be more appropriate?

Whoa I thought I posted a comment in reply to that descending to the crypt picture? Time to adjust the meds because I would have swore I did and could even tell you what was in the post. :(  Anyway, the leaves didn't freak me out but the angle of the perspective on them going down gave sort of a dreamlike quality to it. It is "correct" physically but the choice is sort of jarring emotionally. In a good way that is.

Oh, and another thumbs up on the dragon armour. That's cool.

Hey hey, here's a couple of recent pieces. These are somewhere between speed paints and finished work, due to the time constraints of personal work.

The idea for one came about whilst I was working on a Euromoney magazine cover, and was drifting off to sleep. The character is saying "I'm here to feed the pig". I don't know why.  I had been drinking at the time, I must confess.  It was such a strong image in my head I wanted to paint it.

This one I painted for my mate Martin for the cover of the LRP rules he and some other stout fellows wrote many years back, entitled Britannia Rex.  Many years back I used to play, before I became somewhat disenchanted with dressing up as a Romano Briton and whacking people in the face/getting whacked in the face with a rubber sword.  This year they are having a reunion I'm taking part by way of painting this. Easier on the ole face:

Very nice. This that it is very nicely done. The depth and textures are fantastic (especially considering the somewhat limited range of hues.)

As for me, yes I am Tim :D

Whoa! Fantastic thread.

Would it be fair to say that your palette and lighting is heavily influenced by living in Scotland? Gives the outdoor scenes a moody feel vastly superior to the bubblegum look of generic digital fantasy art.
You can shake your fists at the sky. You can do a rain dance. You can ignore the clouds completely. But none of them move the clouds.

Hey thanks!

I would say yes I am incredibly influenced by living in Scotland.  I have an amazing view from the back of my house, which I am very very grateful for.  Close access to some epic scenery is a massive boon.  I must have a couple of thousand photos of Scottish scenery that I've been lucky enough to take myself, and my personal version of fantasy is very rooted in that.

Cheers!

Edit:
I have stuff like this just ten minutes down the road. You can't beat it.

Consonant Dude

I hadn't revisited this thread since May. The new stuff is great!

But really, the June entry with the horse riders and the fantastic background is just too awesome. First thing I thought was how I'd like to play the badass rider on the front/right.

Thanks for sharing, Jon!

Thanks!  I try to put in characters that I like, and hopefully that have some...character.  S'not always easy to get it right though, since you can get too self conscious about it.

Back to my UK gaming roots, here's the next cover for Dragon Warriors which I did earlier in the year, but is now on show to the public (you can find out more about it here: http://www.magnumopuspress.com/?page_id=10)

This one is for the reissue of the seminal Elven Crystals campaign:

That first June image triggers so many great ideas. Thanks for sharing. I like the others too, but that particular June image is fantastic. It melds some great eras together in a nice gloomy cauldron. Keep up the great work.

Crikey! That's beautiful. It is packed with atmosphere and movement. I like the way the magic user is reeling from the beast. Superb work!
