Title: Games Which Don't Hate You
Post by: SquidLord on August 05, 2022, 01:52:16 AM
Man, it has been a very, very long time since I wandered over here. I basically forgot that RPGsite exists. Which is a little awkward, since this is exactly where I should have been talking about RPGs and other tabletop gaming.

In fact, I recently wrote an article inspired by RazorFist's discussion of the core ejection/S JW canceling of one of the most productive BattleTech content creators for Catalyst, Blaine Pardoe.

It may be relevant to your interests.

Neat.

I was interested in making my own scifi setting for rpgs, miniatures, etc, inspired by classics like Starship Troopers and Aliens, due to disappointments with most corporate-owned settings and misbehaving corpos. And also just because I want to engage in worldbuilding.

The urge to create is infectious and leads to many Heartbreakers, but nobody can stop you.

Wonderful thing about creation. It's hard to keep you from doing it.

So see to it, fancy lad! Get to writing! It will probably make it easier to do if you pick a relatively flexible mechanical architecture to do so if you really want to write a game setting, but we've got plenty of good ones on the table. Pick one up and start running.

Thanks for posting I was not aware of that level of BS.

This was a really interesting article. I noticed a lot of those games were very scifi focused (as you mentioned). Certainly not against that, but any room for a follow up article with other genres of games that don't hate us?

There's definitely room for a fantasy article – but I have embraced the fact that I don't enjoy fantasy nearly as much as I do sci-fi, and it seems that the creators who prefer fantasy to sci-fi are much more inclined to be woke and annoying about it. Which is weird, but makes sense at a certain level.

Sci-fi authors need to have a certain level of plausibility in order to really make the setting work. It's an entirely different class of narrative requirements than fantasy has. (A sci-fi game might actually care about putting together plausible economics; I have yet to see someone into fantasy care anything about economic reality or the like.)
