This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

To riff of Zachary's thread, how about listing games you've played. In order. Even once.

Damn this is going to be hard:
  • Basic D&D (Red Box)
  • Traveller (2nd game I ever played at like 10 years old...guy across the street gave me the LBB)
  • Ogre/G.E.V.
  • A bunch of Metagames/pocket games I don't remember, including the TSR pocket games.
  • Car Wars
  • Star Frontiers
  • AD&D
  • Gamma World
  • Top Secret
  • Palladium Fantasy
  • Call of Cthulhu
  • Runequest
  • Star Ace
  • Villains and Vigilantes
  • Timemasters
  • Chill
  • Palladium Fantasy
  • TMNT
  • Mekton
  • Paranoia
  • Ghostbusters
  • Robotech
  • Mekton II
  • MERP
  • Cyberpunk
  • Living Steel
  • Champions
  • Rolemaster
  • Ninjas and Superspies
  • Beyond the Supernatural
  • Rifts
  • GURPS
  • Cyberpunk 2020
  • Teenagers from Outer Space
  • Vampire
  • Dream Park
  • Werewolf
  • Mekton Zeta
  • Heavy Gear 1e
  • Changeling
  • Cybergeneration
  • Fuzion
  • Jovian Chronicles 1e
  • Tribe 8 1e
  • Exalted 2e
Purchased but never played: relatively limited, suprisingly. ICE's Cyberspace, Shadowrun 1e, Immortal: the Invisible War, D&D Rules Cyclopedia (Basic D&D was a different enough animal), Aria: Canticle of the Monomyth, the various RTG licensed games (Bubblegum Crisis, Armored Troopers VOTOMS), BESM 1e and 2e, Blue Planet. I'm not sure if JC 2e and Tribe 8 2e count, because while I have yet to play them under SilCore I did run their previous editions quite a bit. Same goes for Exalted 1e - while I never ran it, I am running 2e.

The interesting thing about this list is that everything up through Cybergeneration I picked up between the ages of 10 and 24. The last four on the list...have only been in the last 12 years or so. That's going from an average of about 3 new games a year to about 1 every 3 years.

Sheesh. No way, that's 300+ different game systems over some 26 years of gaming.

Car Wars had rules for driver persistence and we eventually played it like an RPG so I counted it.

Yeah, a friend of mine did a mash-up of Car Wars and Aftermath, but I never played it.

It's interestiing to see the differences between our lists. I'm very much of the Boxed Set generation, and I almost missed the 90s altogether. There's a whole set of genre stuff in your list I never touched.

That's going to be difficult as I've played in a LOT of hybrid games.  The first big campaign I was in was a D&D/AD&D rules hybrid- the best part of which was we'd somehow reduced spellcasting to a %ile ability- which gradually evolved into an amalgam of ideas taken from, let's see, the Gamma World box set, the Dragonlance rulebook, and Stormbringer.

Regular "by the book" AD&D was kinda boring after that.

Stormbringer was fun as was the Top Secret game I was in.

Then there were the GURPS games.  Alas I can't even begin to guess what rulebooks were involved in those.  All I know for sure was I had a character sheet.  These, and a GURPS Mekton (?) game, were primarily one-shots.  Actually a LOT of the games I played in were one-shots.

Doubt I could remember them all.  I do vaguely recall creating characters for Palladium's (?) Robotech and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games.

Played, or tried to, a lot of Avalon Hill stuff.  Ran quite a few games over the years, mostly D&D/AD&D (Dragonlance, Spelljammer, et al) and Stormbringer with the occassional game you've probably never heard of like Skull & Crossbones.  Also got some good use out of my MERP and Lords of Creation material, though I never really ran the games "out of the box".

Yeah, I cross-posted with you, or else I would have stuck to your (far saner, but less number-inflating) way of doing things.  I am so shamed! :deflated:

And looking at everyone's lists I realize I forgot:

James Bond 007
Over the Edge
Elfquest
Warhammer Fantasy 1e
MegaTraveller
Marvel Superheroes 1e
Space/Time

Damn that is a lot more games than I thought. Some of them we only played once, but a good portion we played several times. At the same time, the number of games that I think received sustained, repeat play is maybe a dozen or so.

So new question: given the sheer number of games systems listed by most of us, is there something wrong with us?

I actually once set about converting Mekton II mecha to GURPS Vehicles - keeping things like the weight for sensors or weapons or whatnot according to Mekton. That meant like TL 12 materials but TL 6 sensors or something weird like that.

There is something wrong with me...
